words

Okay. I'm having a lively discussion with a very smart friend about some words. I want to know why, if "non sequitur" means "not logically following" why "sequitur" doesn't mean "logically following"?

Likewise, how come "nonplussed" means "outwardly appearing calm at a surprising occurance" but "plussed" doesnt mean "crazed"?

I'm sure some comedian has run this through the comedy ringer at some point, or some smartypants wordsmith has smugly shot this apart, but it's bugging me.

I hate Latin by the way.

Here's a Question...

If you were to spell out numbers, how far would you have to go until you would find the letter "A"?

A movie I wish I'd made

I think this is the funniest copyright infringement I've seen in a long time. I wish I'd thought of this first.

Cat fight in Edison!!

This photo was taken mere moments before the woman in the background noticed Kim was wearing the exact same shirt as her and came over to kick Kim's ass. It was scary. But Kim is scrappy and managed to not only teach the fashion interloper a lesson but also to make off with her iPod.

Don't screw with the Kiminator.

Solipsism=Youniverse

Example: The people on Tabishland are living in their own youniverse.
Good reference website, in case you want to talk like your kids:

Urban Word of the Day
www.urbandictionary.com

May 26, 2007: youniverse

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=youniverse&defid=2408644

The entirety of creation that relates to one specific, narcissistic individual. Used to indicate that a particular person has knowledge only of him or herself -- their universe consists only of them.

If you moved outside of your youniverse for five seconds you'd understand that people aren't homeless out of choice.

The Shat

The year is 1978, we're getting ready to head out into the world form the cocoon of HS. Bernie Taupin is wearing the kind of cool aviators I wore. And Sendracs wasn't the only place where there was some serious schmacting going down.

I Found Him!

The long missing Joe Pino appeared at the train station in Edison, NJ this morning at 11:21 AM. He was rescued and brought back to this house where he was pestered by dogs for hours on end. He chatted with his new best friend (getting kind of old now, I guess) and was gracious to one and all, husband, children, dogs, fish, and frog. He was forced to have his picture taken for the blog (as well as chastised for not being on the blog) and shared a moment of confusion with his fellow Sendracian because the man taking the picture appeared to be either taking no picture at all or taking pictures of knees. Such is life around here.

He reluctantly left in the afternoon, or at least I'd like to believe he was reluctant, and none of us have been the same since. Come back, Joe! Or, see you in Balmer!!

It Was 30 Years Ago Today

For you participants and lurkers who are fans, here's a chance to revisit those glory days.

Zoolander Nite

As the designated Stupid Movie Watcher with my kids, it has been my pleasure the last few nights to revisit Zoolander while Karl slumbers blissfully in good-taste land. This little snippet is where Mugatu tries to bribe Derek by offering to build the "Derek Zoolander Center for Kids Who Can't Read Good."

Indiana on YouTube

In what I thought was a moment of inspiration, I went to YouTube and put in "Indiana, PA" (although no quotes). What I actually got was a pretty mind-numbing collection of fuzzy silent home movies, bad videos, and about 20 vids of the IUP drum corps blocked by fans (okay, they were probably parents). I've posted this one because I think, in a way, it epitomizes it all. It was recorded at some farm in Indiana. Plus, I think one of those guys was my uncle Don before he died. Okay, maybe after.

Shakespeare 24 Hours a day!

I'm in week 7 of my 11 weeks of mounting two Shakespeare plays. My day starts at 7:00 am when I answer emails with questions about Shakespeare. Throughout the day, I spend the whole time working out Shakespeare and trying to answer 1, 001 questions about Shakespeare from our company of about 100 (most of which know much more about Shakespeare than I do). My day ends at about from 11:30 pm when I drive home after the numerous questions about Shakespeare that follow rehearsals. Here's the thing- I don't really know that much about Shakespeare.

I get Friday evenings off so I am coming up for air long enough to tell you my favorite new joke that my daughter tells:

"Two hot dogs are on the grill. One hot dog says to the other hot dog- "Boy, it sure is hot here on the grill." The second hot dog says "Oh no!!! It's a talking hot dog!!!!"

ROAD TRIP!

Funny how your hometown can have a different look when someone else does the describing. Thought I'd pass this along from today's Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Click on the title to go to the link.

Of course there is a question here. Just who is broadcast personality Nick Clooney? I've never heard of him. Is he local from WCCS or WDAD? Nell....HELP!

What's in a Name?

Some odd dinnertime conversation recently revolved around rhyming names. I said I remembered a few from high school: Nina Pina and Michelle Fisel. If I'm spelling that right. I THOUGHT there was one more, but I couldn't remember it. Anyone know?

Concert update

It's that time of year, fellow performers!!!! How can we send you happy thoughts and prayers during your end of year performances and concerts? I have survived my first spring 2007 school concert (Horace Mann... Tuesday). We began the retirement celebration of Mrs. Loletta Rupe with an original composition featuring her poetry. This Saturday I'm playing cello in a Mozart piano quartet at IUP...a memorial concert for Delight Malitsky. When are your gigs scheduled?
