It was a Homecoming Weekend in Indiana

Anyone remember Homecoming Weekends? There is still a parade, a football game and many drunken co-eds. This year, you IUP Grads have something in common with a famous YouTube co-founder. (After you click the link, go to the Archives for October 14th, page 1 and then page 14.)

Comments:
Nell, we need to subscribe to the Indiana Gazette for access to the content.

It was homecoming here for WVU and the local high school. I'll post osme pictures of my 16-year-old step-son and his date. Does anyone else have kids attending the homecoming dance this year?

Homecoming must be for co-ed schools who have football teams, yes? No such event exists in my daughter's all-girl high school. (They actually have to import boys to play male characters in the play.)

Okay. I'll try to scan the article later tonight.

Emily went to the IHS homecoming 2 weekends ago. She drove. Brought the lucky guy back here for some photos after she got ready (here) with a friend. It was chaotic and fun.

We have a co-ed school and football - but no homecoming. I don't think high schools tend to have homecoming at all. I think it's a college thing that IAHS adopted.

BTW, I read a wire news story that mentioned IUP teams are no longer referred to as the 'Indians'. All sport teams this year will be known as 'IUP'.

You would think they would have changed the nickname to the Savages, or the Bloodthirsty Miners, or Those Who Survive Travelling US 119, or something interesting. Calling the teams IUP sounds like a traffic violation.

I suggested the IUP "Retards" and didn't even receive the courtesy of a reply.

T! - A! - R! - D! - S!

Gooooooooooo 'Tards!

I heard it was because it sound too much like "tardis" and the IUP Dr. Who fan club objected.

Step-son Ed (pictured in the Homecoming photo images) played on a community basketball team last winter. They were the Nads.

Joe, let's here a cheer for the Nads.....

Eric please tell me you aren't serious. (Okay, I know, you're Eric-I walked into that one.)

The IUP logo, for now, is a Bear of all things. I can't wait for someone to want to change the name of the town. I know they'll want "Bedford Falls".

Nell....we are talking about a team of 15 and 16 year old boys. Of COURSE I am serious.

IIRC, the Nads took the City Championship. There were several teams with even more questionable names.

of course, back in my college days, I was a member of the
South
Hall
Intermural
Team

...among others...
