A new band for Tim to RAVE about!

Well, I never thought I'd have the kind of time an NC surgeon has to explore this here Internet....but dadgummit...that's what can happen in a hotel room in rural Ohio.

Tim has led you to the Darkness, but that is so last year, as the kids like to say. The current craze is an Aussie band called Wolfmother. Their latest hot tune is in linked in the title. A whole lotta Zep.

As for me, I'm kinda into the Black Keys from Akron, O-Hi-O. The vid is pretty funny stuff. Plus the tune rocks:

They have a new LP out now, but the reviews have not been kind.

And lest we end there, here's a tune that JoePino has been digging:

Gotta love those Flaming Lips!

Time for me to head over the Washington Court House, O-Hi-O and entice more kids to come to WVU!

Comments:
I LURVE the Lips! My kids even like them now. Thanks e-mann! (You aren't going to the Duquesne College Fair in the burgh on Sun are you?)

So five minutes ago. Wolfmother's OK but a little too Deep Purple for me and never approaches T'Darkness' "Get Your hands offa My Women, MF".

The BKs are great. Have you found their tribute ablum to Jr Kimbrough yet?

Would recommend Fu Manchu for that fuzzed out retro 70's sound that takes me right back to nights at Blue Spruce park. Anesthesia hates it when I play it in the OR; I mean why would they need to hear the monitors anyway, right?

Tx for the video links.

Tell us Tim, if you would, about those nights at Blue Spruce. Please.

Nell...now you are scaring me. Yes, I am actually the WVU rep at the Duquesne College Fair on Sunday afternoon. I did not know that alum outside of a 20 mile radius of the Duq campus would know about this event. My fine wife will also be with me.

Do you have a student on the cusp of those college years?

My lovely 16 yr old daughter Emily is a junior this year. (She has made guest blog appearances in group and family photos.) We will almost certainly be making the trek to DU on Sunday. I must warn you, this child has not yet decided on a definite career path, although I understand there's time. We'll come find you and your wife. Emily will be the tall girl rolling her eyes because she still can't get over how her much her mother enjoys these mini-reunions.

I'll have a camera in tow so we can make everyone jealous!

BTW, is there anything that really grates on Emily's nerves? My 16 year old step-son really hates it when I try to use 'hip' language in front of his friends...so I try to do that all the time. It helps soften the blow when I introduce him to cool music by Wolfmother, Sly & the Family Stone, the Black Keys, Hot Hot Heat, Jimmy Cliff, Franz Ferdinand, and others.

And remember...don't push the career path thing. It's a major turn-off, Mom. She will enjoy talking to my wife, the former French/English double major who is now in charge of Academic Programs at WVU.

Is your daughter still thinking of becoming a Tahrhill? Men's BB looks real good this year.

New game: post more YouTube links for cool undicsovered bands to broaden everyones horizons. Am looking for GlassPlanet's version of the treadmill video now....

Yes, UNC is still tops Tim. We've even taken to wearing Carolina Blue occasionally. Eric, I have learned not to push anything, at all, ever. I just tell her, "Whatever makes you happy..."

Emily's giving up a Chem "Study session" to attend the college fair on Sun, although I suspect she isn't missing much studying. She's been listening to Foo Fighters lately. "Hip talk" also grates on Emily's nerves. Ditto with blog references. (My being on the blog interferes with her precious IM time.)

My 16-year old absolutely forbids me to use the words "snap", "bling" and "hood" in her presence. Entire rooms of 17-year olds giggle when I use them in my SAT prep classes.

Tell me when you come to rep in Edison, NJ. We'll visit.

So how many parents of late teens are on here...?

Well, I have a step son in his junior year at Allegheny College, another step son in his junior year in high school, and my daughter just started 7th grade. This is gonna be one quick decade...

As for visiting Edison, NJ....it is unfortunate that this is not part of Ohio. Ohio is my territory, but I am doing two PGH fairs this weekend as a co-worker has a wedding to attend. I've been to Edison! I recall a coffee shop in Metuchen that was a nice breakfast find and who can resist wasting a few hours in the used CD bins at Vintage Vinyl in nearby Fords, NJ. I expect Glass Planet to play there when the debut CD is released. But alas, NJ is not a part of my work sched anymore.

Good luck in the SAT coaching.

You're all so grown up!

In your dreams!

Thanks! Good luck with repping!

Not too long ago when I was picking my daughter up from school, another mom casually commented in conversation, "And then there's Liza, who never grew up." I think she thought this was an insult 'cause she quickly backtracked and apologized with an embarrassed look.

That was a revelation to me. I didn't know I hadn't grown up.
