How come our orchestra wasn't this cool?

Oh yeah. Mr. Jeckovich and Mr. Pescenye.

Comments:
That is a VERY cool orchestra, indeed!

When my colleague "Dave" retired this year, his retirement party was at my house. I called him "Mr. J" every single time I saw him...at school or otherwise. It was just TOO weird to call him by his first name!!!! He was a terrific elementary band and orchestra teacher...the kids loved him! He is teaching band now at Bishop McCort, I think, and gigging for the Mountain Playhouse and other regional and school music theater productions.

Another former teacher that I am in contact with is Neal Keefer...remember him from the Jr. High? He has a big bushy beard, and he plays old-timey fiddle. He will be one of the presenters for our newly formed Fiddle Club...the kids will be playing alternative string styles...jazz, bluegrass, mariachi, Appalachian, Irish, etc.

Anyway, we're plugging away in the IASD music departments!!!! We're trying to keep up the incredible reputation that you all created!!!!

Here's a thought: During Miracle Worker rehearsals, I remember endlessly mocking some chorus group for their version of CCR's Proud Mary. It seemed to me the complete opposite of hip (you know, connoisseur of hip that I was at 16!). So Joe, do the math: Proud Mary to Miracle Worker- 8 years. Smells Like Teen Spirit to now- 16 years.

Maybe Dwight Piscini was the hippest man on the planet and we just didn't know it. (I don't know how to spell his name, but it just now occurs to me that his last name probably translates to something about fish. Could his name really have been Dwight Fish? )

I think you may have something there, Ian!

Hmmmm...Pesce...Pisces...Pecsenye...looks pretty close to me!

Does this give new meaning to the famous "No whales" obbligato? I have it on a Robert Shaw CD (yes I know...now I'M the dorky music teacher) and it cracks me up every time I hear it!
