AND....one last one
and one last one only because I remember this expression on Joe's face so well. I must have seen it a thousand times when we were in high school and college- it's Joe pretending to smile at something that someone else said that they think is hilarious- but Joe thinks is not very funny at all- but is smiling sort of politely- but if you know Joe, you know he's just internally shaking his head and thinking "what an idiot!"

This Joe Pino expression may have been the original inspiration for the Full Hansmann. I think Joe's expression actually morphed (or mocked) into something Chip Salerno did, then leapt into the Full Hansmann. There's a little bit of SCTV-era John Candy and Rick Moranis in there as well, but the primary influence may have started with this classic Joe Pino look.
Maybe the Oxford University Press would be interested in a thoughtful historical treatise of this arcane moment of IAHS history.

Joe smiled like that at me ALOT the summer of '85. I also went out with Mr. Al "The Drip" Scerbo once that summer. Ah, to be young and at UVA in the summer time.
To be honest, I'm starting to think I imagined Joe. We used to communicate all the time, but now I never hear from him.
