Ahh...the Good Old Days!

From a 1924 issue of Popular Mechanics.

Look how happy that girl is!

No parents with lawyers anywhere to be seen!

No one barking about how dangerous it is, instead praising the difficulty and skill level it will teach!

And you know the ground underneath it is dirt with lots of rocks. Sharp pointy rocks.

I bet the kids were lined up to use this. I know I would have been.

Comments:
...and under the sharp rocks, arsenic-laden soil.

The Horace Mann playground was asphalt or cement or something. I remember once running up the slide and tripping on the last step. When I woke up my head was by the bottom of the slide, and I was pointed the opposite direction. I think this explains a lot that happened in future years.

Luckily, regulation "school shoes" can be used as foot covering. No need for expensive imports.

I do believe this ad was approved by Edgar R. Snyder and Associates.

Do they still have to wear Mr Craig authorized gym clothes in PE? The girls used to look like inmates. Do they still have PE?

I used to get my whites up at the hardware store that's now part of the Coney from the guy who looked like a cadaver.

I think those gym onesies the girls wore were sexy! What is hotter than bad girl prison inmates???

except we weren't very bad.

By the time we were seniors us girls didn't HAVE to wear the
uni-onesies. I bet they are now worth millions on ebay.

Thank goodness we didn't grow up down under...
